Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union: In his speech president Obama told us that our planes had flown 8400 sorties over the areas controlled by ISIS.

Editor, Times-Union:My granddaughter's birthday was Jan. 28. I had purchased a one-of-a-kind birthday card for her.

Editor, Times-Union: Talk about impressive. Sophomore Analiese Helms performed at the Pleasant View Church Saturday to earn funds for tuition to the MasterWorks Event.

After reading through the recent letters to the editor, I can't help but think some of the people reacting to Hurricane Katrina's destruction have lost their minds. Let me get this straight.According to several submissions to the Times-Union, the destruction of Katrina was apparently sent by God to punish New Orleans for public acts of homosexuality.Am I reading this correctly or did I misinterpret something? I must admit I could have easily missed the point, it's hard to fully digest an opinion with a jaw dropped to the ground.

U.S.Senator and American astronaut John Glenn's return trip to outer space Thursday can serve as a reminder to us all. That reminder is that no matter how old we get, we can still reach the stars. Glenn is 77 and returned to outer space Thursday 36 years after his first trip. Glenn last went into space before Nixon's resignation, before the end of the Vietnam War and before many high school students and college students today were born. In our trendy, pop-culture, fast food, channel-surfing times, we sometimes forget that we are all aging. There is no fountain of youth where we can remain forever young, even though cosmetic companies would have you believe otherwise. The phrase, "It won't happen to me!" doesn't apply here. The human body ages, for all people.I'll get old, you'll get old, and that one person you had a crush on back in high school will get old. It's the way it works.

Editor, Times-Union: Sat down to read Saturday’s paper, started with Gerard’s “News Views”. Whaaaa! Gerard attacks the Tea Party trying to unseat Lugar, a Republican! Zing, there went the paper.

Editor, Times-Union: Recently Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival featured a documentary (titled After Tiller) celebrating four “amazing” abortionists with abortionist Leroy Carhart hailed as a hero.

Editor, Times-Union:Ladies and gentlemen of Kosciusko County,Thank you to the thousands of people that came out and voted yesterday. It was a historic turnout as well as a historic outcome. I wish, however, that our numbers of participating registered voters were larger. Just over 60 percent of registered voters is a greater number than we have seen, but not that impressive when you consider the issues at hand.

Editor, Times-Union:I wish to call your attention to something very unusual, I think.

Editor, Times-Union:I am an elderly senior who has seen many changes over the years.

The news took my breath away at first, like hearing that a favorite married couple was divorcing. Then I wanted all the nasty details. Tammy Denlinger, a charter member of the Back To The Days Of Kosciuszko steering committee, called to say the group has disbanded and would no longer organize the historical event. Denlinger and a few others have coordinated the Lucerne Park event for nine years and, quite frankly, she has other things to do. "The event became too much for too few," Denlinger said."I've worked on the committee for nine years and hoped someone else would take my place. That hasn't happened." The annual weekend event, held in September along the shores of Pike Lake, presented life during Revolutionary War times in Colonial America. Back To The Days honored Polish military strategist Thaddeus Kosciuszko, after whom the county is named.

Editor, Times-Union:Attention all former track and field athletes from Warsaw High School. If you are not already aware of it, the Warsaw boys track team is currently rated 15th in the state and the girls are rated 13th. This represents perhaps the greatest collection of track athletes this town has ever had.
