Fall sports are at varied stages of their postseason run, trophy games.

We all enjoy the conveniences of modern life, but there are some aspects we could do without. Technological advances save work and time, but they can also lead to identity theft.

It’s crazy how much can change in just seven days.

I was watching sporting events this weekend, as I often do, and a common word kept coming up during the broadcasts.

Editor, Times-Union: As I was reading a book last night by Bear Grylls, “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” (highly recommend it), I was reading the account of the betrayal of Jesus. As the religious leaders who wanted him gone were inciting the crowd to yell “Crucify him!” and chanting louder for Pontius Pilate to do their bidding, I wondered, “Where are the people? The common folks whom He touched and healed, and fed, and taught, and loved? Where are they? Why aren’t their voices heard?”

Editor, Times-Union: Admitting you're wrong about something is not a weakness but a strength. I have been wrong about various things and admit it.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association is reportedly studying additional competitive balance measures for football, borrowing ideas that look a lot like what our neighbors in Ohio have already implemented.

We hear all the time from folks who wake up one morning and realize that they are 55 and haven’t anything saved for retirement. It happens more often than you might think.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a very angry column about the Chicago White Sox having fallen out of first place in the AL Central. I said they had choked, claimed that even if they made the playoffs, I didn’t see anything coming out of it, and even called out a couple of guys by name that had been struggling down the stretch.

With anticipation, I keep looking out our kitchen window to our backyard where there are two maple trees, waiting for their leaves to turn.

We talk a lot about hate these days.

There are rivalries, and then there are annual appointments with reality.

Planning for retirement should really start as soon as you get your first real job, but it should continue through each stage of life. Each has its own challenges and common mistakes to avoid.

As long as storytelling has existed, so has the concept of good guys and bad guys.

We have several things to discuss, so we will put them on our plates like we would at a tailgate party at a football game—with heaping portions.

Two weeks into the 2026 NFL season, and we already know three things. September overreactions already have some of us walking around with sheepish looks on our faces. Somebody's preseason darling is already gearing up to be the next visual aid in a “Disappointments, All of You!” meme. Third, the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t just turning around things with moxy, they have a bully at running back that makes Travis Kelce feel like he’s getting better at getting open.

Over the years, we’ve noticed that our clients here in Kosciusko County have done a pretty good job of preparing for retirement. Increasingly, though, we are seeing people who are delaying their planning because they view it as too complicated or are simply overwhelmed by the number of choices that exist for their retirement.

As I’m sure you all could have guessed, I was originally going to spend the space this week talking about the injury that Caleb Williams suffered in the Bears’ loss to the Vikings on Sunday. I was in a really bad place when it happened, but every piece of news that has come out since that horrible moment has been more encouraging than the last. It looks like Caleb has avoided anything too serious. Thank goodness.

I was watching Saturday’s slate of college football games, and something that was said started me thinking about the future of what we know as college football.

We’ll spend this morning with an assortment of thoughts before I lecture our youth.

Over 30 years ago, my wife Casey and I bought our first house. When we applied for the mortgage, I found out that I had a utility bill from a college apartment that had been sent to collections. That one issue nearly stopped us from getting our house. It is very important to stay on top of your credit and to know your credit score. Thankfully, that has never been easier.

For the first time since July 4th, the Chicago White Sox now sit in second place.

If you think about every relationship you’ve ever had, they all have one thing in common—the first impression.

High school polls don’t excite me anymore. I feel, especially among the media, the polls are based more on last year without considering who is coming back from the prior season’s top teams.
