Thank you to the thousands of people that came out and voted yesterday. It was a historic turnout as well as a historic outcome. I wish, however, that our numbers of participating registered voters were larger. Just over 60 percent of registered voters is a greater number than we have seen, but not that impressive when you consider the issues at hand.I am discouraged that more folks didn't come out and let their voices be heard. This was the most important election yet, of my lifetime. I am thrilled at the election of Barack Obama for president. He has inherited a colossal mess, and I trust him to do the best he can to attempt to straighten it out.
I fear, however, that the Republicans have the wrong idea about the Democrats. We aren't looking to take any more money from the people in the form of taxes, we are just looking for your participation in the bigger picture of rebuilding America. What we need in the 21st century is a lot of committed participants, all working together, as citizens, to make this country great.
Generations ago, when many of our families arrived in this country, much work and innovation was needed to build this nation. This is not a time to sit back and enjoy it. We all must go above and beyond the call. I encourage everyone to commit to a cause that needs your support, activate yourself and your energy into the causes that interests you most. The more we all participate to build a better future for our country the better we will all be. I am willing to work very hard toward a new and exciting time in this country. Please join me.
