Monday morning, around 7 a.m., I made a call to the Warsaw Police Department to make them aware that a traffic light was out on U.S. 30. The gentleman that answered the phone politely told me that they were aware of the light being out. It was due to an accident at the next intersection, which would have been east from where I had come from. He also said that there were stop signs at the access road. I was a little confused and concerned that they didn't seem to think that a light being out on 30 warranted more than a stop sign at the access road. We all know how disregarded lights, traffic and speed on U.S. 30 is.
I happen to travel this road every weekday. It took me a minute to realize what was different at that intersection and that the light was not working. Luckily, the traffic was light at that moment, and although a few cars went through without stopping, all lanes eventually came to a stop and took turns. As I parked my car and walked across the parking lot, I happened to look back at the light only to see that this was no longer true. Traffic on 30 was not stopping, it was just barreling through the intersection.
Now I'm not saying that it would have prevented the accident that happed there, but would it have hurt our budgets to have a squad car there? To add a little more awareness to the situation?
