Tea Party Only Beacon of Sanity

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
Sat down to read Saturday’s paper, started with Gerard’s “News Views”. Whaaaa! Gerard attacks the Tea Party trying to unseat Lugar, a Republican! Zing, there went the paper.

As I was crossing the room to retrieve the paper, I wondered, “Is this the same Gary Gerard that accused President Bush of spending like a ‘drunken sailor,’ who gave the Tea Party good press at one time? Has Gary been abducted by “Democratic” aliens or kidnapped by the Democrats and water boarded? Lugar’s voting record makes you wonder. Dick is, after all, “Obama’s favorite Republican.”

Come on, Gary, the Tea Party is the only sane group in Washington. Without the Tea Party, the congress and the president would have extended the debt limit and kicked the problem down the road. As we close in on the 2012 election, I would bet the Tea Party events won’t be down 50 percent. And the overused word of the day, “default,” suggests America has no money. The government still takes in billions (150-200 plus) every month. How can The United States be broke? The Tea Party wants our government to spend less, how is that radical and unpatriotic? The United States can still pay our bills; we need to just stop spending more than we take in.

Section “D” of the same Saturday paper has a good article about this government’s spending problem. Listening to all the debate leads me to believe that the current group of politicians (except certain freshman Tea Party congressmen) are more concerned about their political future and the future of big government than the future of the country. We will find out what Americans “think” in November 2012. The 2012 election will be about the future of our country, our only “hope” is there will be a “change” in the leadership of our country.

Note: For a another – if not more snotty – take on the Tea Party, readers might turn their attention to conservative columnist Kathleen Parker’s views by clicking here. She also used to criticize President George W. Bush for overspending  and supported the concept and basic tenets of the Tea Party.
