Hallie J. Self, 87, Warsaw, passed away at 10:03 p.m. Feb. 11, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born March 19, 1929, to Jessie “Hall” and Viola “Odie” Howerton Self in Hitchita, Okla. He and his wife have lived in Warsaw since 2004. On July 10, 1952, he married Leda Murry in Okmulgee, Okla., and on July 10, 2017, they would have been married 65 years. He honorably served in the artillery in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by Rockwell International as a machinist. He enjoyed NCAA basketball, gardening and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Leda Self, Warsaw; a son, Barry (spouse Cynthia) Self, Warsaw; daughters, Linda (spouse Dwayne), Warsaw, and Shirley (spouse John) Hepler, California; a sister, Joyce (spouse Floyd) Baldridge, Okmulgee; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Services will be private. Burial will be in his hometown of Hitchita. On July 7, 1965, she married Ralph A. King in Columbia City. She was a 1940 graduate of Warsaw High School and a lifetime resident of the Warsaw and Larwill areas.

NORTH WEBSTER — James S. “Jim” Shepherd, 88, Warsaw, passed away Feb. 12, 2017, at his home.  He was born May 10, 1928, in Bippus, to George and Blanche Spicer Shepherd.  He graduated from Bippus High School and in 1952 from Indiana University in Bloomington with his B.A degree. He was a United States Navy veteran and was married Sept. 9, 1952, to Phyllis J. Wall, who preceded him Aug. 6, 2001. 

NORTH WEBSTER — Rita Ann Beeson, 87, North Webster, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Feb. 12, 2017, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Milford.  She was born April 19, 1929, in Gas City, to Lawrence E. and Lucille I. Harshman Richards. She graduated in 1947 from Gas City High School. On June 26, 1948, in Gas City, she married Hermer Franklin “Dick” Draper, who preceded her in 1950. She married Royce Beeson in 1954; they later divorced but remained close friends.

PERU — Jeffery Allen Baker, 43, Roann, passed away Feb. 10, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Peru on Oct. 5, 1973, to Charles and Judith Sutton Baker. He was a 1993 graduate of Peru High School. He married Christina Fountain, formerly of Muscatine, Iowa, on Jan. 21, 2009.  He was employed by Medtronic in Warsaw. He loved fishing and playing pool with his brother, and enjoyed watching the IU Hoosiers and the New York Yankees.

NAPPANEE — Steven A. Martin, 47, Nappanee, died Feb. 12, 2017, unexpectedly from natural causes at his residence.   He was born July 6, 1969, to Richard and Deborah Martin.  On Feb. 14, 1990, he married Melissa Egolf in Nappanee. She survives. He will be cremated. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Yellow Creek Cemetery. Marjorie E. St. John,  87, Rochester, passed away Feb. 8, 2017, at Lakeland (Fla.) General Hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Peru, to Albert and Winifred Brach Becker. On Feb. 2, 1952, in Kokomo, she married  Fred St. John. He survives.

ROCHESTER — Joseph E. Felke, 66, Claypool, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Feb. 11, 2017, at his home. He was born on Nov. 25, 1950, in Plymouth, the son of Francis Edward and Evelyn Joan Owens Felke. On April 8, 2004, in Claypool, he married Marsha Welch; she survives.

George E. Jones Jr. passed away and went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 60 at 2:23 a.m. Feb. 8, 2017. He resided in Battle Creek, Mich., but was formerly a resident of Syracuse.

ROCHESTER — Max Lee Hungerford, 89, Rochester, passed away at 7:17 a.m. Feb. 7, 2017, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Miramar Beach, Fla. He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Clinton, to Leo and Lena Houchin Hungerford. He served with the U.S. Army for 15 months and was honorably discharged in November 1947. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupational Medal in Japan.

Linda Lee McColley, 70, died at 1:49 a.m. Feb. 7, 2017, at her residence in North Manchester. She was born June 4, 1946, in Wabash, and was the daughter of Edward and Velma Lewis Graves. She was married to Murland Copeland, who died in 1992. On October 3, 1994, she married Jerry E. McColley, who died April 20, 2016.
