Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:I just finished reading letters from the March 23rd Times-Union.

Editor, Times-Union:God's love and grace is sufficient for us believers and also non-believers.

Editor, Times-Union:I recently spotted the photo in your paper about Reader's World closing.

- Good Teachers - Haines Says Thanks Good Teachers Editor, Times-Union: Recently, it seems as though the teachers and staff of WCHS have been under constant scrutiny.Letters to the Editor of the Times-Union have stereotyped our teachers as adults who constantly use profanity, who touch and harass students in inappropriate ways, who judge kids unfairly, and these authors have even claimed that the teacher's word is always taken over the student's when their alleged deeds come to the attention of the administration.

- Tax Policy - Chiropractic Concerns - Akron Says Thanks Tax Policy Editor, Times-Union: Benjamin Franklin once wrote, "Our constitution is in actual operation; everything appears to promise that it will last, but in this world nothing is certain but death and taxes."When dealing with the possibility of a budget shortfall, around the General Assembly one hears talk of "tax restructuring with revenue enhancement."While this term sounds nice enough, it means that Franklin was right - taxes are, indeed, certain.

- Disrespectful - Abortion - Biofuels Plant Disrespectful Boy, if you were one of those in attendance at Blackford High School on Saturday watching the boys basketball Regionals, You were treated to some great, classic, Indiana style basketball. And you would have also been as outraged and hurt as I was, at the trashing of our National Anthem by the Tippecanoe Valley student body. Right before tip off, and in front of a few thousand fans, a handful of very talented Blackford County girls were singing our National Anthem acoustically. When the final verse came, the student body of Tippecanoe all shouted "VIKINGS" loudly over the last word in the song. The entire gym seemed shocked; I know I was.

Editor, Times-Union:The following is the third letter in my series of letters on the subjects of church and state.

Editor, Times-Union:A group of us are asking that people pray and fast for rain on Monday, June 18. Crops are hurting, livestock, wildlife and also those that do lawn care business. With high temps this weekend, this will be extremely damaging to the crops that are already stressed.

- Counterproductive - National Anthem - Personal Attacks - Support Soldiers Counterproductive Editor, Times-Union: This letter is written in response to Gene May's letters over the past several weeks.

Editor, Times-Union:A German's view on Islam by Emanuel Tanay M.D.

- Drugs, Drinking And Driving - Football Field - Softball Trip - Sharing Is Caring Drugs, Drinking And Driving Editor, Times-Union: When I was a high school teacher, if someone in my classes was to receive three Ds, I would recommend to the administration that this "kid" would repeat all classes next year. Then why do we tolerate, with our weak laws, the three Ds mentioned above - "Drugs, Drinking and Driving," only to get a slap on their hand. My life, my body, was ruined in 1995, when a van struck my car on the passenger side of my Mercury Marquis.Having a large, heavy car saved my life.He ruined, totaled, my beautiful car. Many times, I had wished he had hit me on the driver's side.

The following is a list of books that readers of the Times-Union will find useful in understanding both sides of the abortion debate. All of the books listed below are available at the Warsaw Community Public Library.

Editor, Times-Union:Now that Warsaw is going to require classes, permits and plan approval for keeping chickens, in fairness they need to do the same for dog owners.  Think of the revenue!

Editor, Times-Union:Our founders crafted a Constitution which delegated 18 specific powers to the federal government from the states.

By now we all have either heard, read or assimilated the sum and substance of Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr's report to Congress about the Clinton-Lewinsky matter. We've heard about the 11 counts he considers worthy of impeachment consideration. We've heard more than most have wanted to know about the specific acts between our president and the young intern. And, yes, we've heard yet again the president express his regret for his actions and his plea for forgiveness. For that humbling admission, President Clinton should be credited. And, being a forgiving people, most Americans will be willing to grant him that forgiveness. The president and his ardent supporters should remember that the grant of forgiveness doesn't alleviate him from the responsibility - or the punishment - he has coming for his transgressions.

- Moral Integrity - Critical Of Roemer - Clinton Scandal - Wondering About Clinton - Cafeteria Workers - Food Stamps Moral Integrity Editor, Times-Union: Our President has lost the moral integrity to be able to lead our nation forward into the future.

Editor, Times-Union:Some atheists recently complained that they don't like to be mocked by Christians. I sympathize.

Editor, Times-Union: The following is my sixth letter in my series of letters on the various positions that one’s government can have on religious liberty. The previous five letters were printed in the Times-Union on March 23, April 6, May 9, July 15 and Oct. 3.

Editor, Times-Union:David Kolbe is being painted in the press as a far-left,socialist radical simply because he is a Democrat.

Editor, Times-Union:As I follow the coverage of the three candidates for Kosciusko County Superior Court 1, I am struck by their differing experience levels. One candidate, it seems, stands well above the rest.

Editor, Times-Union: This letter is in response to the article about KABS and their possible reduction in service.

Editor, Times-Union:I must address the issue raised by Tom Metzger about gangs.

Editor, Times-Union: Mr. McClarens’ letter needs a response.

- Fix CR 200N - Meth Labs - Stem Cells - Rehabilitation - Drug War - Parental Involvement - Water, Water Everywhere Fix CR 200N Editor, Times-Union: The city should properly fix 200N as a traffic hazard. They patched in potholes and dumped piles of gravel - poor way of fixing a busy, traveled road! People drive in wrong lanes to save their vehicles from damage.Parts of the edge of the road are broken away; again, wet cement/gravel just dumped, not leveled, just dumped.

- Flag Etiquette - Moral Absolutes - The Blame Game - Marathon For Leukemia Flag Etiquette Editor, Times-Union: This letter will, I fear, offend some segments of local society, and for that I apologize. Recent events involving deaths of law enforcement personnel, the "National Police Officers Day" and the deaths of school children, have all resulted in the flying of the flag of the United States at half-staff. ONLY the President of the United States may cause the flag to be displayed at half-staff over federal buildings, military camps and Navy ships. It may be flown thus for a period of mourning not to exceed 30 days for the death of one who served, or was serving at time of death, in a "national" capacity.
