Editor, Times-Union: When I was a high school teacher, if someone in my classes was to receive three Ds, I would recommend to the administration that this "kid" would repeat all classes next year.
Then why do we tolerate, with our weak laws, the three Ds mentioned above - "Drugs, Drinking and Driving," only to get a slap on their hand.
My life, my body, was ruined in 1995, when a van struck my car on the passenger side of my Mercury Marquis. Having a large, heavy car saved my life. He ruined, totaled, my beautiful car. Many times, I had wished he had hit me on the driver's side.
Let's put them in jail for 30 days on the first count; 60 days on the second count; and allow them to drive only a bicycle for the next five years. On the third count, take their license away forever - for their lifetime. If they are caught driving without a license - then five years jail time on the first charge of driving without a license.
Look at the local paper, people. Look and read of how many are drunk and drug addicts. We need to get them off of our streets and roads.

Football Field
Editor, Times-Union: Has anyone noticed that the Warsaw Tiger football team is 3-0? Has anyone noticed that the Warsaw Tiger football team defeated the number seven team in the state? Has anyone noticed that the conditions at Fisher Field are embarrassing? The lighting situation is a joke! During the Plymouth game there was a set of lights that went out to make an already dark field even darker. This situation must be fixed! What other 5A school in the state of Indiana does not have its own stadium? The facilities for other sports at Warsaw High School are as good as any in the state of Indiana. The basketball arena is nicer than that of most small colleges. The baseball and softball fields are nicer than those of most small colleges. The football field ... does not exist!
To the school board at Warsaw High School, "Wake Up!" You have put together a coaching staff that is excellent. These guys are not just great coaches but great people as well. Build them a stadium! In order to keep these guys around, there must be a commitment from the school board. The coaching staff has made the commitment, now it is the school board's turn. It would be a shame to lose such a good thing that is only going to get better. Build them a stadium!
One final note to the guy who announces the games at Fisher Field: when you're not talking, "Take your hand off the button!"

Softball Trip
Editor, Times-Union: A couple weeks ago, I went to Holland to play softball. I was there for a week. It was a wonderful experience, one I'm very glad I had.
I want to thank all the people who supported me. From my family and friends to local businesses; whether it was $1 or $500, everyone was so helpful and without that help I wouldn't have gotten to go. To all the people who prayed for me, a very special thank you. God knows I needed every single prayer. God bless and once again thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Sharing Is Caring
Editor, Times-Union: The American Red Cross morning Blood Drive at Center Lake Pavilion will take place this coming Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. We, at the Regional and Kosciusko Chapter offices, want to encourage all blood donors who are eligible to donate to call our 1-800-GIVE-LIFE number and set up your appointment time. By making an appointment we can determine the proper amount of staff we need for the day and make the drive run smoother.
We are trying to increase our productive donor base for the morning drive to 100 units and we need your help. In 1996 and 1997, we were averaging 100 productive units per drive. We are now producing approximately 75 productive units. Please help us reach this goal so we can save more lives.
Here is a poem from an unknown author in Sturgis, Mich., that says plenty:
Sharing Is Caring There's love in giving something nice
No matter what it's worth.
And helping one another While we're living here on earth.
Giving others good advice Is truly doing something nice.
It could help so many Yet, it doesn't cost a penny.
Giving blood could save a life
Which most of us can do. Lord only knows when even you
May need a pint or two.
Suppose you needed blood to live
But no one ever gave. You'd died unnecessarily And soon be in the grave.
Give a little blood, today
For someone else tomorrow Cause if the bank is empty
Then, there'll be none to borrow.
P.S. Blood is life When brothers give, Then, others live.
