25 Years Ago Warsaw's application for a $400,000 grant from the state, earmarked for the purchase of the old freshman high school property and its improvement, appears to be progressing forward at full steam. Mayor Jeff Plank conducted a public hearing for the community improvement program application at the city council meeting. The school board has suggested selling the property in a public auction, or it could transfer the title directly to the city at a "fair market value."
50 Years Ago Lt. Max Truex, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Truex of Warsaw, added the 5,000 meters national military record to the new 10,000 meters mark he had set recently. Running in Brussels, Belgium, Truex crossed the finish line in the 5,000 meters in 14:16.4 (14 minutes, 16 and four-tenth seconds). The previous record was 14:25.6 by Rhadi of France. Truex is a former Warsaw High School and University of Southern California track great.
75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Herbert A. Dye of Cumberland, Md., arrived recently to visit for two weeks with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dye, Jr., and family of Winona Lake.
Mrs. Herbert Dye Jr., and Mrs. Robert Thompson of Winona Lake went to Chicago where they saw the motion picture, "The Great Zeigfeld."
