    Margaret Sohl and Cheryl Hoffert have been chosen by American Legion Unit 253, Herbert Kuhn Post, North Webster, to attend the 54th annual session of Hoosier Girls State.

Sohl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Alexander. Hoffert is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hoffert. Both are students at Wawasee High School.

    Five-year-old Robert Earl Howard could barely hold up his prize catch, a 5-pound channel catfish. He caught the fish (with help from his father, Earl Howard, 900 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw) on Pike Lake the night after he graduated from kindergarten this week.

June 8 1955

    Today (June 4) acclaimed one of the nation's ranking amateur baton twirlers is 20-year-old Janet Walter, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Walter, of 202 N. Maple Ave., completing her junior year at the State University of Iowa.

A leading figure on the Iowa campus, Janet is the university band's baton twirler and winner of 38 trophies and more than 150 ribbons and medal awards.

June 8 1930

    Eighty-five neighbors and friends of L.E. Shroyer, present county commissioner and residing near Dutchtown, participated in a barn raising on the Shroyer farm Thursday. Construction began at 1 p.m. and was completed by 5. The barn was 40 by 70 feet.
