Whitko School Board was named an Exemplary Board by the Indiana School Board Association, the highest recognition a school board can receive. Of the 270 school boards in Indiana, 20 received the honor this year. Members are Pete Mitchell, Hal and E. Marie Trump, Dave Tranter and Mike Braddock.
The board of directors of Combined Community Services announced Oct. 18 that Laura Kaufman resigned her position as executive director to return to law practice. Laura Cooper was appointed interim director.
Friends of Bell Memorial Library in Mentone are sponsoring a Longaberger Bingo event Oct. 25. Betty Blackburn and Jean Pritchard display the prizes.Dan Zink and Jules Lin, seniors at Warsaw Community High School, have been designated as two of the 15,000 semifinalists from graduating classes in high schools across the country in the 1991 National Merit Scholarship Program, and are now eligible for one of 6,000 Merit Scholarships to be awarded next spring. Zink plans an engineering career, while Lin wants to study medicine. Named as commended students: Charles Brindle, Jonathan Edmundson, Dan Green, Heather Kauffman, David McGinness, Stephani Rufenbarger.
A counseling program for elementary students of Warsaw Community Schools, Success Unlimited, is underway with Marilyn Yoder, Jan Hammaker and Lisa Schloss. WCS coordinator for special programs is Joan Fahs.

R.P. (Bob) Gast, chairman, announced the 1965-66 fund raising campaign for Baker Boys' Club. A committee of Ben Detterman, Norman Hankins and Dick Heagy will contact some 1,500 former members. The Club is in its 40th year of continuous service to the community. Bob Delp was elected president to replace Louis Breading; Freeland Phillips, vice president; Merle Mock, treasurer; Bruce Maish, secretary.
Edwin Boyer, superintendent of the Winona Lake Presbyterian Church, presents a pin to Chips Neer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Neer, Warsaw, in recognition of his perfect attendance record in Sunday School the past 12 years.
Merl Smith, Warsaw, grew a 21-pound Danish Bald cabbage in his garden. It measured more than one-foot across.

Sunday, Sept. 29, Helen Garber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Avery Garber, Warsaw, was united in marriage to John Fisher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Fisher, Warsaw. The single ring ceremony was read by Rev. A.W. Littrell, pastor of the Baptist Church. Joseph Carlin, of this city, best man, Miriam Fisher, sister of the bridegroom, and Margaret Moon, bridesmaids, and Helen Fitton, maid of honor, attended the couple. The bride wore a white satin wedding gown, a tiara of orange blossoms, a fingertip veil and a 50-year-old gold necklace belonging to her Grandmother Garber. Mamie Edgington presided at the organ and Curtis Garber, brother of the bride, sang "I Love You Truly," "Oh Promise Me," and "Because." Ushers were Dewey Reed, Claypool, and Wayne Pifer, Warsaw. Following a honeymoon trip into southern Indiana, the couple will reside on Fifth Street, Winona Lake.
