Donald Irvine “Don” Huffman, 82, Warsaw, passed away peacefully at 12:50 a.m. March 13, 2017, in the care of the nursing staff at Mason Health & Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw. He was born May 22, 1934, in Warsaw, to Irene Belle Huffman. He was a lifetime Warsaw area resident; attended Warsaw High School; and was a sergeant in the United States Marines, where he received the Sharpshooter Medal. 

AKRON — Peggy A. Kats, 65, rural Rochester, died at 2:20 a.m. March 13, 2017, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born Dec. 14, 1951, in Fulton County, to John and Patsy Alspaugh Jackson. In 1994 she married William Kats, who preceded in 2006. She was a homemaker. Susie Stamper, 74, Warsaw, passed away peacefully March 9, 2017, in her home. She was surrounded by her loving daughter and beloved granddaughters. Susie was born Feb. 23, 1943, to Fred and Dorothy Woodling Hover in Warsaw, where she was a lifetime resident. After losing her parents as a young girl, she and her siblings were raised by their grandparents, Walter and Bessie Hover.

Derrick E. Brown, Claypool, passed away unexpectedly at 11:30 p.m. March 12, 2017, in Silver Lake, at the age of 38.  He was born March 16, 1978, in Warsaw, to Buck Brown and Alice J. Owens.

BOURBON — Mark A. Slabaugh, 60, Leesburg, died March 13, 2017, of a heart attack. He was born in Warsaw on Aug. 20, 1956, to George E. and Charlotte Mason Slabaugh.

MOORES HILL — Maxine Coombs, 67, Milan, formerly of Warsaw, died March 12, 2017, in her home. She was born in Batesville on Dec. 31, 1949, to Elvin and Bessie Watkins Quicksall. She married Ronald Rollie Combs on Dec. 28, 1988; he survives. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Moores Hill Church of Christ, 13567 Ind. 350, Moores Hill, with Tito Pel officiating. NORTH MANCHESTER — Phyllis H. Lutz, 94, died at 9:30 p.m. March 4, 2017,  at Peabody Retirement Community’s Health Care unit, North Manchester.   She was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Michigan City, to Charles L. and Phyllis DeVoe Henry. She married Walter H. “Bud” Lutz on Oct. 16, 1946. He died May 2, 2000.  

David A. Bartley, Warsaw, passed away at 6 a.m. March 12, 2017, at his residence surrounded by family at the age of 58.  He was born Nov. 15, 1958, in Warsaw, to Bob Bartley and Sue Ann Harmon Frush. He was married Feb. 19, 1981, to Teddie Ann Zorn, who passed away on July 13, 1999. He married Jill Weaver on Oct. 27, 2011; she survives in Warsaw. 

Rodney Brett Jones passed away March 10, 2017, in his Warsaw home. He was 53 years old at the time of his death. He was a loving, approachable person. He was friendly to everyone but was especially warm to women. He enjoyed watching action movies and WWF wrestling. He also enjoyed watching Bone City Rollers derby matches and other action sports. He liked snacking on cotton candy. An extremely social person, Rodney will be missed by his large group of friends and is survived by his sister.  His mother, Doris Jones, preceded him in passing.

Danny L. “Dan” Hawkins, 54, Bellevue, Wash., formerly of Warsaw, passed away at 4:26 a.m. March 12, 2017, at Parkview Hospital, Warsaw.  He was born Feb. 8, 1963, in Garden City, Mich., to Melvin E. “Mel” and Constance D. “Connie” Keast Hawkins. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1981; from Purdue University, West Lafayette; and received his master’s degree. He was employed at Collinear Group, Seattle, Wash., as a systems engineer and formerly worked for Collins Aviation, Phoenix, Ariz.,  and Rockwell Aviation, Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Warsaw and lived in Des Moines, Phoenix and Melbourne, Fla., before moving to Bellevue.

Vicki Sue Randall, 69, Mentone, passed away at 1:55 a.m. March 13, 2017, in her residence, surrounded by her loved ones. On July 24, 1947, she was born in Warsaw, to Donald and Loretta Davis Randall. Living most of her life in Kosciusko County, she did reside in Lexington, S.C., before returning to Mentone in the latter years.

Ella Beth Kauffman Male, 86, a resident of Cambrian Memory Care in Tecumseh, Mich., completed her earthly journey and stepped into eternity with her Savior on March 12, 2017, at Hospice of Lenawee County, Adrian, Mich.  She was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Versailles, Mo., to John Samuel and Lovina Rachel Garber Kauffman. She married Ernest William Male on Sept. 3, 1950, in Mendon, Mich. He preceded her on Jan. 5, 2017. 

AKRON — Larry Lee Rohrer, 71, Claypool, passed away Friday evening, March 10, 2017, at his residence, doing what he loved best, bringing his wife of 52 years, Carolyn, safely home from yet another of their many life’s journeys. Following Larry’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service, but there will be a public visitation and viewing at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Our sweet wife, mom, grandma and sister, Betty Alma Nifong Nolin, 75, Westview Court, Argos, took the hand of Jesus at 4:43 p.m. March 10, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at IU Health University Hospital, Indianapolis. She had been in declining health. 

ROCHESTER — Sherry Lee Rogers, 66, Rochester, passed away at 10:37 a.m. March 10, 2017, at  her residence following a fight with cancer. She was born Feb. 18, 1951, in Rochester, to Robert W. and Norma J. Bitterling Evans. On  July 24, 1971, in Rochester, she  married Russell Alan Rogers. He died July 25, 2007.  A celebration of Sherry’s life will be at  1 p.m.  Tuesday in Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Pastor Mike VanHeyningen officiating.
