Starting to gain some momentum after a slow start to the season, the Warsaw boys basketball team took to Knightstown, home of the Hickory Huskers, on Tuesday to take on Providence in the first game of a doubleheader at the famous Hoosier Gym. While the team didn’t get the start it wanted, it battled for all 32 minutes, and led by a 30-point gem from Mydin Burgher, it was enough for a 56-45 win.

The big games keep on coming for the Warsaw girls basketball team, as the ladies followed up winning the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle last Monday by playing in the headlining game of a doubleheader at the Hoosier Gym on Tuesday night. Facing off against a talented Fairfield team, the Lady Tigers were forced to dig deep, eventually outlasting their opponent with a 76-58 victory.

My vocation (almost 41 years and counting altogether) sometimes involves the following paraphrased dialogue. “Chip, I see one of your sites’ operating costs are higher than usual,” they’ll ask. “So have you addressed concerns about this?”

Headed into the team’s final game before Christmas, the Warsaw boys basketball squad looked to find some answers for the offensive woes that had plagued the group so far this season. Facing off against Merrillville at the Tiger Den, the Tigers were able to get off to a fast start and never looked back, going wire-to-wire for a 72-41 victory.

The prestigious Hall of Fame Classic at the world-famous New Castle Fieldhouse was nothing more than a business trip for the Warsaw girls basketball team.

The rivalry between the Warsaw and Wawasee boys basketball programs often has the distinction of beginning Northern Lakes Conference play for both sides. Friday night’s matchup at the Tiger Den was no different. In what was a low-scoring contest that was downright ugly at times, it was the Warriors leaving town with a statement 42-33 victory.

With Christmas falling a week from today and New Years Day the week after that, this will be my final column of 2025. I will return for the NFL playoffs with a column on January 8. With this being my final piece before the holidays and new year, I figured I’d try to combine the two and have some fun this week.

Having won three of their last four games by 60 points or more, the Warsaw girls basketball team had not been tested in the month of December. With rival Columbia City coming to town on Tuesday night, the Lady Tigers looked to finally get one. Despite the game being blown open in the fourth quarter, the contest was much closer than the final result, a 70-46 Warsaw win, would indicate.

Warsaw students competed at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional Competition, with 30 students qualifying for the BPA State Leadership Conference.

Tuesday was a historic night at the Tiger Den for multiple reasons. During the Warsaw girls basketball team’s Northern Lakes Conference opener against NorthWood, senior Joslyn Bricker moved up to second all time on the Lady Tiger scoring list. The game, which ended up 84-15 in favor of the home side, was the 800th win in program history.

My brain has been more tired than usual, and around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, I was sitting at my desk – the last person in one of the plants where I work – unable to formulate a thought nor begin another task.

Coming off of their first loss of the season to Jasper County on Saturday, the Warsaw girls basketball team had the opportunity to bounce back on Tuesday in their return to the Tiger Den. Standing in their way was a Penn team the Lady Tigers have had their fair share of success against in recent years. The trend continued, as the home side dominated their opponent to the tune of a 58-23 victory.

“Nothing like us ever was” comes from poet Carl Sandburg’s work, “Four Preludes on Playthings of the Wind” – a four-part poem published in 1922. He illustrated a great city, its complacent people, its downfall, and the rats and lizards eventually ruling it.

What began as a simple act of faith in a small Indiana community has grown into a global movement of sports, service, and spiritual transformation.

There was a day, about six years ago, that the people in the Warsaw Athletic Department will never, ever forget.

Still boasting a perfect record after defeating Valparaiso on the road last Saturday, the Warsaw girls basketball team returned to the Tiger Den on Tuesday night for a meeting with South Bend Riley. The game belonged to the Lady Tigers from the jump, as the team cruised to its fifth straight win to start the season with a 67-10 victory.

It was another day of celebration for Warsaw Community High School athletics, as two more athletes signed their letters of intent to continue their careers at the next level.

When a team isn’t doing well, the first person to feel the strain of that is the head coach.

Returning to Fort Wayne for the second time in seven days, the Warsaw girls basketball team set their sights on Northrop as they tried to pick up their third win in as many tries to start the season. While the Lady Tigers did pick up the victory, it wasn’t always as pretty as the 67-44 final score might indicate.

The Warsaw Middle School Band, Choir and Orchestra Departments will present their annual Veterans Day Program on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Lakeview Middle School Gymnasium.

After opening the season with a win on Tuesday night, the Warsaw girls basketball team returned to the Tiger Den on Saturday night to play its home opener. It was a great night for the program, as players from last year’s team received their state runner-up rings and saw a new banner be unveiled in the Tiger Den.

You’ve heard “this must be the place” in movie scenes, and a 1983 talking Heads album has a very upbeat tune on it named, This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody), as well.

The IHSAA 2025 State Cross Country Championships were held this past Saturday at the Lavern Gibson Championship XC course in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Last season’s sectional championship game between Warsaw and Concord was one for the ages. This year’s regular season meeting, not so much. On Friday night, these two teams met for the third time in 365 days and treated fans to an excellent game. Momentum swung like a pendulum, the lead changed three times, and the end result was the Minutemen avenging last year’s postseason defeat with a 45-28 win that was a whole lot closer than the final score would indicate.
