Posted
SYRACUSE – A Walk-A-Thon to raise money for the Youth Athletic Complex in former Vega Field is set for May 12.

The walk starts at Wawasee High School and participants can walk anytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Walkers can pick up registration forms and pledge sheets at the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Dr., or at www.syracuseparks.org They can collect money pledged per mile or by a fixed amount.

There will be prizes for the top three money raisers in each category -- elementary, middle and high school, as well as adult and business -- and  there will be something for all youth participants.

Water and snacks will be provided along the way.

A total of $260,000 has been raised toward a goal of $400,000 for the youth complex, which will feature baseball diamonds and a football field. Much of the work on the grounds is planned for this year and the ribbon-cutting is set for April 2013.
