Seat Belt Enforcement Zones Ongoing

Posted
Indiana police officers will be conducting seat belt enforcement zones May 18 to June 3.

When passing through these zones, there will be an orange sign that says, "Seat Belt Enforcement Zone Ahead." Police will only stop violators.

For every one percent increase annually in occupant protection restraint use, 10 lives can be saved statewide.

Beginning July 1, law enforcement officers are enforcing a new seat belt law.

The new law states that each occupant of a motor vehicle equipped with a safety belt must meet the standards stated in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 208 and the safety belt must be standard equipment installed by the manufacturer.

Occupants shall have a safety belt properly fastened at all times when the vehicle is moving.

Children must be restrained in car/booster seats until the age of eight.
