Born in Santiago De Cuba, Cuba, Philip Caveda of North Webster became interested in becoming a volunteer interpreter through a television advertisement for the Pan Am Games. He used his vacation time to take part as an interpreter, which was an integral part of the games.
Mrs. Cora Goon, mother of Glenn Goon of Clunette, recently celebrated her 100th birthday at her home in the North Liberty-LaPaz area. She is now living in Clunette with Glenn and eagerly looking forward to her second century.
Warsaw war vet Carl "Tubby" Warner soon to be the engineer on the same locomotive he ran in Italy for the Army. He spotted the old engine when it operated in Warsaw several weeks ago and recognized it by an old damaged cow-catcher part. He inquired of the operator and found it had been purchased from war surplus by the present company.
Twenty-six cars of gravel from the pits on the Pennsylvania Railroad, known as the Warsaw Sand and Gravel Company, were shipped out on Saturday in one train load to Chicago. It is probably the largest single shipment ever to leave here.
