    Three Warsaw residents will travel to Washington, D.C., to receive a prestigious award for their efforts in breast cancer awareness and prevention.

Dr. Richard Cross, Carole Cross and Connie Rufenbarger were invited by the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month board of sponsors to attend the Profiles in Progress awards dinner at the Mayflower Hotel. At the dinner, Dr. Cross will receive an award for "Recipe For Your Good Health," which evolved into the "Just Peachy: Cooking Up A Cure" cookbook.

    Three seniors at Wawasee High School received letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Principal Henry Smith has announced.

Tim Bause, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Bause; Jeff Lagro, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Lagro; and Andrea Steffen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harland Steffen were all commended for outstanding performance in the 26th annual National Merit Scholarship Program competition.

October 5 1955

    Kenneth Parks, Prairie Township trustee, said final approval had been received from the state board of education and state tax board for construction of a $116,000 grade school addition at Atwood and that town officials would next enter into a contract with the firm of Maurer and Maurer as architect for the new building.

The addition, which will feature six grade school classrooms plus rooms for the vocational home economics and vocational agricultural and shop departments, will be on the north side of the high school gymnasium and will be a one-story block building, with brick facing, 195 feet in length and 70 feet deep.

    Dan Wrigley is feeling very good, as his team of fine mules got all three prizes at the fair last week. Wrigley has a team of mules that any man could be proud to own.
