NORTH MANCHESTER - Vance Free knows it pays to be honest, but he found that sometimes honesty is mostly its own reward. When the mail bags were shoved off the Big Four passenger train, he found a small money bag containing $25. Inquiry developed that it had been lost by the baggageman on the train and had dropped out of his clothes onto the floor of the car and was then pushed off with the mail bags. Later Free met the train and restored the money to the owner. The owner was vociferous in his thanks and when Free said he wanted no reward, insisted that he accept something. Free finally accepted and the baggageman handed him a coin, the munificent sum of five cents. Thus does Free find honesty is its own reward. But he wasn't that fortunate when he lost a $20 bill a few weeks ago, for he did not recover that.
