    Melissa Monk, Claypool, has been selected as a candidate in the 1990 Miss Indiana National Pre-Teen Pageant.

Monk is the daughter of Richard Monk, Claypool, and Cindy Monk, Burket. She is a fourth-grader at Mentone Elementary School.

    Jon Carlson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Carlson, One Miner Addition, Warsaw, received the Charles Andrews Arion Award at the Warsaw Community High School band concert. Jon also received a service award. The Andrews Arion Award is given to a student who had better than average scholastic standing; demonstrates cooperation over and above normal duties; general musicianship and music performance; attendance, ambition, diligence, inspiration to others, excellent personal habit and qualified to carry on the best traditions of Warsaw Community High School.

    Hazel Phillips Perry emerged victorious in a seven-man race for the Republican nomination as recorder. She was 58 votes ahead of her nearest opponent, Wilma Hale.

May 8 1925

    L.L. Lamkin, a resident of Warsaw since the close of the Civil War, is celebrating his 81st birthday anniversary. Lamkin was born in Whitley County and at the start of the rebellion enlisted in Co. I of the 12th Indiana Volunteers, Warsaw. He is healthy and active. Today he reported for duty before the large photo of his old commander, the late Gen. Reuben Williams, in The Times office, with a solemn, inspiring military salute.
