Just one day after a fourth-place finish at the state finals, Warsaw Community High School's golf team once again reached the top of the state's golf plateau as two members and its coach were honored. Tom Beno and Matt Johnson were honored as both were selected to the All-State first team. The honors did not end there, however, as veteran coach Joe Harris was voted the Coach of the Year.
Kenneth L. Shepherd, 102 11th St., Winona Lake, has been named cost studies engineer at the general office of the United Telephone Company of Indiana Inc. Shepherd joined United in 1966 as a draftsman. In September 1968, he was named engineering aid and served in that capacity until September 1970, when he was promoted to Warsaw district engineer.
Ed Ettinger (Speck or Spotty as he is popularly known), our town's lone and last harnessmaker in his 86th year, has been in the harness business in Warsaw continuously for 71 years and is still on duty daily making and repairing harnesses and doing odd things with leather. Speck is remarkably spry and works at his shop nearly every day.
Equipped with the very latest in the way of a camping outfit, Albert E. Reeves, bacteriologist, set off in Kosciusko County for a two-weeks' trip down the Tippecanoe River, in which he will conduct a hunt for bugs. Reeves proposes to determine the various kinds of mosquitoes found in this section and to get a line generally on the bug population along the banks of the Tippecanoe.
