    WINONA LAKE - Longtime resident R. Quentin Rupe was honored as the recipient of the annual Bill Reneker Memorial Community Service Award.

Presented by Judy Reneker, the award is given to an individual who makes a selfless contribution to the betterment of Winona Lake. Rupe, she said, "has given our town countless hours of community service."

June 13 1981

    Polly Hicks, who won first place in the recent Women's Christian Temperance Poster Contest out of 450 posters entered from eight schools in Kosciusko County, also was awarded prize money for winning third place in the state contest.

Her art teacher from Jefferson School is Nancy Shoemaker.

    Edgar Smith, principal of the Bourbon school for the past 28 years, announced his retirement.

Milton Cooke, music instructor and assistant principal at Bourbon, was named to succeed Smith.

    The Warsaw Boys' Club won first place with model airplanes exhibited at the annual meeting of the boys' clubs held in the east, according to a communication received by Robert Breading from Pete Thorn, director of the local club, who has been attending the national boys' club meeting.
