    Kevin Lloyd Darrall, son of Mark and Linda Darrall, North Manchester, was the first to be born in 1989 at Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was born at 8:13 a.m. and weighed 8 pounds, 9-1/2 ounces. Kevin has one brother, Jon, age 6.

    Rod Wildman, Warsaw High School's fine senior forward, has earned the distinction of becoming the first Gunner of the week for 1974.

Wildman's aggressive play and scoring efforts in the recently completed Richmond Basketball Tournament were the factors in determining this week's choice.

January 2 1948

    Harold (Hal) Stokes, son of Mrs. Lyda Stokes, Warsaw, and his dance band are currently playing at the Terrace club in New Orleans. The club can accommodate more than a thousand people and on Christmas Eve every table was reserved. Hal's offerings are labeled "Music With Memories" and clippings from a New Orleans paper say that with "smooth danceable music with old and new favorites and a bit of Latin spice, the band goes over in a big way."

    A big snake, lulled by the recent summerlike weather into belief that it was summer time, was caught out in the zero weather this morning by the sudden drop in temperature before he could scamper to his hole. Wesley Fawley Scott, who lives near the Dalton Foundry, east of Warsaw, this morning was en route to look after his traps when he discovered Mr. Snake wiggling along the ground with difficulty looking for a warm place.
