Springhill Acres subdivision will once again celebrate the Festival of Lights, a neighborhood tradition that began in 1966 when residents joined together in celebrating the Mexican custom of putting lighted candles in sand-filled bags and lining both sides of the street in the entire area.
Jack Koskey, manager of the Warsaw FBC Store Inc., west on U.S. 30, presented a $25 gift certificate to Janet Sponseller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sponseller, of 814 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, and to Gregory G. Price, son of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Price, Leesburg, the winners of the Christmas coloring contest. There were 47 children of the area who participated.
The Rev. and Mrs. James, Lee Pottenger, of Warsaw, were among 26 young Methodist commissioned as missionaries of the Methodist church on Friday evening at the annual meeting of the board of missions and church extension of the Methodist church in session at Buck Hill Falls, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Pottenger are going to Africa to engage in educational work.
Ice cutting will begin on Silver Lake tomorrow by a number of citizens who make the habit of storing ice for their own use and for commercial purposes. The ice is said to have been five inches thick Monday and those interested, were of the opinion that at least seven-inch ice could be harvested by Wednesday.
