August 4 1994

    The scarecrow competition at the 1994 Kosciusko County 4-H and Community Fair was fun and exciting.

This year's youth winner (age 12 and under) was David Lash of Mentone. The adult winner was Dewey Patterson of Warsaw with his fireman scarecrow. Linda Cochran of Mentone was runner-up with her stick scarecrow.

25 Years Ago

August 4 1979

    Bruce Shaffner of Pizza Hut of Warsaw, presented Bill Clay with the grand prize in the recent drawing celebrating the restaurant's first year in the city. The grand prize was a Pizza Hut jacket and a free pizza a week for a year. Second prize winner, Bob Cover, received a $25 pizza party, and third prize winner, Brian Smith, won a $15 pizza party.

August 4 1954

    Fred J. Anglin, of Leesburg, has been named deputy district governor of district 25-B of Lions International, it was announced by John G. Herrmann, of North Webster, district governor.

August 4 1929

    Cigarret smoking by women on the streets is not confined to ultra-modern New York City.

Today at noon a beautiful young woman, possibly 25, like the girls on the advertisement without a sign of self-consciousness nor an attempt at a pose, nonchalantly lighted and puffed her cigarret while walking across the street from the Foote Cafe to the Winona Interurban station.
