Travis Gates, of Warsaw Community High School’s class of 2001, recently received the Darren Gregory Spirit Award of $1,000. Each year Dan and Roberta Gregory give this award in memory of their son to a Subway employee who is furthering their education by attending a trade school or college, and has been employed by them for two years or more. The recipient must exemplify the qualities of leadership, responsibility, honesty and integrity.

Pauline Riner of Mentone, was recently honored as Psi Ote of the Year. Psi Iota Xi Sorority is a national philanthropic organization and their national convention was held in Louisville, Ky. Janet Simpson, national president, made the announcement. Pauline is a member of Beta Epsilon Chapter of Mentone, of which she has been an active member for 57 years. Pauline does not let the fact that she is 80 years young slow her down. She actively works on all projects and contributes to her community in many, many ways.

Miss Carol Conn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byrum Conn, Syracuse, is one of 50 freshmen at St. Joseph’s Hospital school of nursing in Fort Wayne. She is a graduate of Syracuse High School.

75 Years Ago

Several new features have been added to the Kosciusko County fair this year. On October 1, Home-Coming Day, will be celebrated in honor of the founding of Warsaw 100 years ago in 1836. The Centennial address will be given in the evening by former Judge L.W. Royse. Prizes will be awarded for the oldest man registered at the fair who must be a resident or former resident of the county. The oldest woman, and oldest married couple, under similar conditions will also be awarded prizes.
