Tippecanoe Lake Country Club Mixed Couples Bridge Group met with four tables played. Winners were: Nancy Pirtle and Sara Smith; Crystal and Don Miller; Elaine and Jim Loser; and Doris Couch.
Jim Scott, Pierceton, a seed dealer with Pfizer Genetics Inc., is one of 12 winners of a John Deere model No. 116 lawn tractor and mower. Scott became eligible for the grand prize of the tractor because of his sales activity and delivery of Pfizer Genetics' products.
Blisters, bruises, cuts, stomach upsets and a monkey bite are among the ailments handled by Red Cross first aid teams at the fairgrounds. They've been quite busy.
While working on a farm near Barbee Lake, Newton Jones was sitting on a load of hay and drew up his knees and clasped his hands around them. While in this restful position he said he believed he heard a rattlesnake nearby, and, sure enough, a moment later the reptile crawled under his arm and across his body. The snake turned his head and looked into Jones face. Without moving a muscle Jones looked down and counted six rattles and a button on the tail of the rattler. By that time a neighbor on the load of hay recovered sufficiently from his surprise and fright to get his pitchfork under the snake and throw it off the load and over a nearby fence.
