Several local and area teenagers learned about politics and government this month at the American Legion Auxiliary, 60th Hoosier Girls State at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Attending Hoosier Girls State from Kosciusko County were: from Wawasee High School - Brittany Blair, Debbie Coldren, Caitlin Alexander, Diane Jackson and Abbigail Webb; Whitko High School - Samantha Miller; Warsaw Community High School - Eleanor Beard, Melissa Blaschke, Pauline Campbell, Katie Manning, Michelle Moore and Liz Wiggins; Tippecanoe Valley High School - Mariah Wise.

Judge Jesse Eschbach was presented the 1986 “Pete Thorn Award” by the Warsaw Rotary Club at its annual installation banquet last week. Each year, the Warsaw Rotary Club recognizes someone who has been an influence to the youth of the community in a well-rounded development toward becoming good citizens. Jesse Eschbach is judge on Senior Status, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Chicago. The Federal Court of Appeals is second only to the U.S. Supreme Court. Jesse Eschbach grew up in the Warsaw area, and though he and Mrs. Eschbach live in Chicago, Warsaw is still “home” to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Miner, of Etna Green, went to Bloomington recently to bring back their daughter, Donna, and Penny Swanson who had been attending Girls’ State. Penny is the daughter of the Joe Swansons, of Atwood.

75 Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Roberds went to Chicago Wednesday where they will join several hundred other Elks and their wives, who will make a two-weeks tour of the United States and Canada. Mr. Roberds is Exalted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge, and he and Mrs. Roberds are being sent as delegates to make this trip and attend the national convention which will be held in Los Angeles, Calif.
