    The Tippecanoe Lake Country Club mixed couples bridge group met July 7 with six tables playing.

The winners were: Nancy Pirtle and Sara Smith, Verna and Bob Beauchamp, Jane Love and Mary Morgan, Charlotte and Pat Blaugher, Crystal and Don Miller and Jo Marose and Jan Ellison.

July 9 1983

    INDIANAPOLIS - Local runners Dick Katte and Jerry Byrd won first places in the Master's Division and Milo Lightfoot claimed the top position in the 65-70 age division at the White River State Games recently.

Katte won the 400 meter race and Byrd was the top finisher in both the 100 and 200 meters, while Lightfoot won the 100 meter race.

July 9 1958

    Mr. and Mrs. William Lippinscott, of Oswego, have donated land for a proposed new community building in that community.

Officers of the Oswego community building said a fundraising drive would be started soon. They hope to raise $5,000 to erect a 32 by 60-feet cement block building.

July 9 1933

    Councilman Merl "Bricktop" Hodges last night took his first flight into the stratosphere. Up to last night the genial councilman had resisted man's inherent desire to emulate the birds but, inveigled by a friend, he took a seat in an airplane and from 2,000 feet took a look at the 38 to 60 lakes of Kosciusko County.

And did he like it? Well, this morning he was trying to buy Virgil Frictor's plane and run the gosh darn contraption himself. Frictor is the aviator from St. Louis who is hauling passengers and doing cross country flying from Warsaw this summer.
