10 Years Ago Warsaw Chemical honored five employees May 27 for 20 continuous years of service: Larry Metzger, Char Bucher, Danny Shepherd, Debbie Utter and Jay Sweatland. They were given a plaque and a company cookout. On Monday, June 13, Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation board approved Brett Boggs as assistant superintendent, the position being empty since Dr. Daniel Kramer left to take over as Valley superintendent with the retirement of Dr. Karen Boling. Boggs has been the Akron Elementary School principal since 1988; taking this position will be Blaine Conley, a teacher at Akron for four years as well as the high school junior varsity boys basketball coach. Boggs has been with the school system since 1978, starting as a teacher at Akron for seven years. 25 Years Wawasee baseball players honored: Geoff Colburn, Chris Conkling, Ab Edmonds, Chad Jones, Tim Lilly, Kevin Manning, Jason Mickley, Brian Schwab, Jerry Smith, Erik Stevens and Adam Wilson. Lilly and Jones received athletic blankets as team captains. Opening its 35th summer season, the Wagon Wheel Theatre will present “On Golden Pond.” Cast members include Tom Roland, Ann Whitney, Karl Maschek, Gene Grillo, Jennifer Newland and Christopher Guy. Just-For-Fun pet show winners: Fred Koeppel, best dressed; Tina Thompson, most unusual; Melissa Koeppel, best trick; Alena List, best overall cat; Kristine Paton, best overall dog. Best poster awards went to Amanda Boyer, Tracy Gradle and Jason Rangel; Carolyn Weiss won the picture-essay contest. 50 Years Lyle K. Edenburn, principal of Akron High School, disclosed the names of the valedictorian and salutatorian: Theressa Wildermuth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Wildermuth, Route 1, and Richard Allen Harrold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dorris Harrold, Route 2. Rev. Douglas A. Dickey is commencement speaker May 24. Kenneth E. Dunnuck was named principal of Manchester High School, replacing V.A. Simmons, who took the position of superintendent. He's a former Mentone resident. Dick Byers, Baker Boys' Club, presents trophies to the winners of the kite flying contest. Harry Beatty had the largest homemade kite; David Long, the smallest. Varsity cheerleaders for the 1965-66 school year at Larwill High School will be Lynette Nichols, Linda Eberly and Dean Maggart. 75 Years Lowell Valentine's automobile was stolen from a parking place on the court house square. License plates were found last Saturday at Boys' City, Winona Lake. Police believe the theft may have been perpetrated by the same person who abandoned a Ford coach on North Washington Street near the high school building for the past three days. The car had no license plates. Plans to motor to Fort Wayne for the day, June 6, were completed by the Burket Home Economics Club at the home of Mrs. Vernon Jones Thursday night.
