Ed Jarrett, sixth-grade teacher at Harrison Elementary School, was awarded the 1998 Council for Exceptional Children Outstanding Regular Education Teacher of the Year Award. Randy Polston, Harrison principal, and Susan Hall, teacher of emotionally handicapped students, nominated Jarrett for this award for his work to meet the needs of all children in the regular education classroom.
Joy Conlon, a 10-year-old fifth-grader at Washington Elementary School, has been selected to attend the Ball State Institute for the Gifted in Mathematics. Joy is one of only 32 students selected on the basis of test scores.
Sheila Troup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Troup, Milford, wrote the winning essay in the National Secretaries Week contest sponsored locally by Widegawa Chapter of the National Secretaries' Association. She received a trophy at the National Secretaries' Day banquet.
ROCHESTER - Myron Reese, of this city, for six months an employee of the state highway commission, has been named assistant to Commissioner of Parks Richard Lieber. Reese is a graduate of the local high school and of the University of Illinois, where he specialized in landscape gardening.
