    Manchester High School’s 2002 Crest yearbook has been named a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker award winner. The yearbook was honored in Portland, Ore., April 12 at the annual convention of the NSPA and the Journalism Education Association. This marks the fifth year the Crest has received the honor in the past six years. The yearbook themed “Just Push” was led by editors-in-chief Marie Weller, Jeff Sincroft, Megan Keffaber and Nathan Bucher.

    Seven area high school students are among 815 graduating seniors throughout Indiana to have been named winners of the 1988-89 Hoosier scholar awards. Three Warsaw Community High School seniors were awarded the honor. The Warsaw recipients are: Teja Rao, who plans to attend the University of Notre Dame; Rebecca Van Schepen, who will take her scholarship to the University of Evansville; and Bret Walters, who plans to attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute.

    Mike Valentine, talented Warsaw High School senior, won the American Legion 4-state regional speech tournament recently in Indianapolis and earned the right to compete in the multi-state sectional tourney at Springfield, Ill. Mike, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Valentine, Warsaw. He represented Indiana against speech contestants from Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky.

     “Sound Your Horn” was presented by the junior class of the Pierceton High School before an appreciative audience recently in the high school gymnasium. Those taking part in the three-act comedy were Leah Galbreath, Joe Swain, Delbert Brown, Richard Pletcher, Georgia Menzie, Dean Reed, Kathleen Orr and Ruth Gilbert. The play was directed by Miss Maude Yontz.
