10 Years Ago Lincoln Lions won the Warsaw boys elementary city basketball championship over the Jefferson Spartans at the Tiger Den. David Wayne is coach, with Scott Sterk as assistant. Managers are Derek Grose and Keaton Irwin. Eisenhower Eagles won the Warsaw girls’ elementary city basketball championship over the Leesburg Blue Blazers at the Tiger Den. Coaches are Jamie Long and George Lakeview Middle School won 88 medals in solo and ensemble competition at the Indiana State School Music Association District Feb. 5 at Wawasee High School; Edgewood won 96. Directors are Donna Person and Tammy Keirn. Accompanied on piano were Deb Bishop, Sharon and Elizabeth Cole, Kim Bright, Randa Franklin, Yvonne Keirn, Kathy Kolbe, Dan Coplen, Jane Crim, Barb Gauger and Krista Petty. 25 Years Ago Michael Klondaris, chief staff photographer for Cox Studio, had three commercial transparencies accepted at the Professional Photographers of Indiana convention held in Indianapolis. One of the transparencies, titled “Party Line,” took second place and earned him a silver plaque. Klondaris has been with Cox Studio since 1976, having been founded by his grandfather, Clarence Cox, in 1944. WCHS Winter Band Concert Feb. 20 will showcase excerpts from solos and ensembles that will perform at the state contest, North Central High School, Indianapolis, Saturday. Soloists are Matt Bussard, Edward Cooning, Max Fulwider, LeeAnn Gump, Rita Jaroch, Mike Lucas, Lori Miller, Chris Murphy, Paige Nelson, Chad Shaffner and Amy Tuura. 50 Years Ago These Warsaw High School debaters took top honors in a 16-team invitational debate tournament at South Bend Central High School: Tom Bair, Cheryl Chance, Jim Nyenhuis and Gary Haymond. Team coach is John Schang. County commissioners have sent a report to the Indiana State Highway Commission stating there are now 1,353.14 miles of Kosciusko County roads, in comparison to 1,160.7 miles in 1960. The National Clock Co. will receive $40 for the second year beginning March 2, 1965 (revised from $50 March 2, 1964) and $40 for the third year beginning March 2, 1966. This is a contract to keep the courthouse clock running. 75 Years Ago Mary Druckamiller Kelly, sister of Coach Druckamiller, former Syracuse High School hot-shot, is playing on the Warsaw girls basketball team. She’s competition enough for two guards, and try to stop her from sinking the ball from any place on near half the floor. Warsaw feminine brigade will wear bright red shorts and white satin sport shirts. W.G. Gable, local contractor, has purchased from the heirs the Isaac Hall property at 1110 E. Market Street, which was so badly damaged by fire a few weeks ago, and has a force of workmen engaged in repairing and thoroughly remodeling. J.D. Newman of Los Angeles, Calif., has been appointed general agent of the Cole Brothers’ Circus for the 1940 season, owners Jess Adkins and Zack Terrell announced. He succeeds Floyd King of Dyersburg, Tenn.
