10 Years Ago Because, in part, of the volunteerism of the Kosciusko County sheriff’s reserves, the underbrush and weeds in the woods between Warsaw Community High, Edgewood Middle and Washington Elementary schools are gone. There’s now practically a clear view from one side of the woods to the other. The woods cleanup was part of the reserves’ community service project for the year. Twenty-five reserves volunteered with the service project this year. 25 Years Ago After almost 30 years of school activities and sporting events involving more than 500 pupils, Sacred Heart School now has a parish hall to host home indoor sports games. Last week marked the first volleyball game played in the parish hall, which was built in 1958, and used as the church until the new church was constructed in 1986. At that time, the parish hall was remodeled to include wood flooring, volleyball and basketball equipment. 50 Years Ago Mrs. John Spencer and her daughter Sandra, of near London, England, returned there by plane from Chicago recently after spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Dale Gwin, of Nappanee. Mr. and Mrs. Gwin visited the Spencers in England a number of years ago while Mr. Gwin was stationed with the Army in Germany. 75 Years Ago Bette Mikesell, of Warsaw, is included in the group of 116 Indiana University students ranking high in the English proficiency examinations given recently at the state university. Those students have passed the examinations in English composition and will be excused from certain composition courses.
