10 Years AgoFiremen worked on the northeast corner of the American Table Restaurant, where a fire was reported at 5:51 a.m. today. The fire damage was contained to a utility room and a portion of the kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout the building. Preliminary estimates place damage at $175,000 to $200,000 and the business, on U.S. 30 in Warsaw, will likely be closed for several weeks for cleanup, officials said. A cause for the fire has not yet been determined, but it is not believed to be of suspicious origin. No injuries were reported.25 Years AgoJames L. Slough, Bourbon, Postmaster, was recently re-elected to his second term as president of the Indiana Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States at the national meeting of that group in Las Vegas. Slough has been a member of the postal service for 43 years which includes a three-year stint in the Navy.50 Years AgoDr. George L. Marshall, of Bourbon, was honored at a recent Indiana State Medical Association meeting for his 50 years in medicine. Dr. Marshall, who has been in Bourbon for more than 40 years, was honored with 31 other Indiana doctors. Dr. Marshall, who confines his practice to office work at this time, states the biggest change is the auto. In earlier times, the horse and buggy were used. He holds the record for delivering the most babies in Marshall County at this time.75 Years AgoA shower party was given recently at the home of Mrs. Charlene Hartman on West Center Street, complimentary to Miss Margaret Kintzel, who will become the bride of Dr. E. Winton Thomas of Leesburg, Oct. 20. The affair was in the form of a kitchen shower. The main entertainment of the evening was bridge. The hostesses served a dainty one-course luncheon to the guests at small tables, with oil cloth covers. Tiny market baskets, filled with candy, were given as favors. The many gifts which were presented to Miss Kintzel were attached to ribbons and hidden in various places throughout the rooms.
