10 Years AgoAuthor Ken Beardslee, a resident of Milford, recently spent the day speaking to the students of Akron Elementary School and encouraging them to become avid readers and writers.Beardslee, once a record-breaking high school baseball player in Michigan, went on to play professional baseball with the New York Yankees. He then became a professional scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 25 years. He is also a poet and and a writer and loves to share books with students while encouraging them to read and write.25 Years AgoCounty's First Industry -- The John Pound Museum in Oswego was the county's first commercial building and was the former home of the Kosciusko County Historical Society. Oswego will come alive on History Day Sunday with an Indian "get-together" of collectors with artifacts.50 Years AgoThe first Lutheran Boy Scout award in Kosciusko County was given recently to William Camden Jr., Warsaw, at a Sunday morning service of Redeemer Lutheran Church. The award is called "Pro Deo et Patria", and is given to a Scout only after he has fulfilled very elaborate requirements in service to his church and community. The parents of the awardee are Mr. and Mrs. William Camden, who together with his Scoutmaster, Claude Beeson, witnessed the ceremony.75 Years AgoSyracuse will open a two-day celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the town. The feature will be a parade, followed by a number of free acts. A homecoming celebration will be held Sunday with former Judge L.W. Royse as the principal speaker.
