10 Years AgoThe Ramada Plaza Hotel Women's Bridge Group met recently with seven tables playing. Winners were: Ruth Castaldi, Mary M. McCoy, Grace Mayer, Shirley Bricker, Isobel Pfeiffer, Barbara Gagliotti and Gayle Gonser.25 Years AgoChad Curtis, a former Warsaw resident, was given a glass plate from the Town Of Warsaw to be presented to the country of Poland when he visited there in March. The plate was presented to Curtis from Warsaw Mayor Jeff Plank and Paul Kunosky of Warsaw Cut Glass (the company that made the plate). Curtis traveled to Poland on his own funds to meet with 1983 Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa.Curtis, 29, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Curtis, Warsaw, and was a history major at Southwestern Michigan and Grace College.50 Years AgoPlans were announced today by Seward Township Trustee Lowell Leckrone to construct a 10- to 12-room grade school at Burket in the near future.Leckrone stated that if the school was built, it would replace both Seward Township grade schools -- Burket and Franklin. He estimated cost of the structure at $126,000. Leckrone stated that there are 220 students from grades one through eight in the two schools at this time.75 Years AgoWhitley County has inaugurated a fight against the proposed linking of Whitley to Marshall and Kosciusko counties, with the county seat in Warsaw, in connection with a proposed program to reduce the number of counties in Indiana from 92 to 27. The question was raised whether the action could be taken by the legislature without the consent of the people.
