10 Years AgoCub Scout Pack 3730 of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, recently held its annual Pinewood Derby race. Nineteen boys participated and all were awarded participation patches. Bill Curl and his troop 730 were the entry officials and Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine was the official judge.Those receiving awards were: first place, Brandon Hurley; second place, Josie Antram; third place, Michael Summers; Arrow of Light car, Josie Antram; electrifying car, Matt Drudge; most southern, Devan Lockridge; most plain, Chris Wight; most lethal, Zach Beck; deadliest, Patrick Olson; Scout car, Steven Riggle; most psycho car, Luis Nunez.25 Years AgoThe annual meeting of the Kosciusko Soil and Water Conservation District was held recently in the Shrine Building on the fairgrounds. A buffet dinner served prior to the business meeting was enjoyed by 140 guests. Darrel Byrer, Etna Green, gave an entertaining report of the week he had spent at Oliver Lake Camp this past summer. Byrer, and three other Kosciusko young people, Kent Gault, Mariellyn Goodwin and Steve Baker all received scholarships from Kosciusko SWCD to the camp. The following 4-H members were honored for state fair projects in wildlife, forestry and soil and water conservation: Shawn Krull, Loretta Schafer, Andi Stroup, Kati Stroup, Carl Rouch, Celia Impey, Shari Baumgartner, Mark Demske and Paul Goodwin.50 Years AgoA second Warsaw High School student has been awarded a Certificate of Merit as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition. The student is Donald J. (Jim) Dalton. Jim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Dalton of Warsaw.Previously, it had been announced that Rita Lamoree, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lamoree, Warsaw, had become a finalist in the competition.75 Years AgoTemperatures in Warsaw and Kosciusko County took another tumble of approximately 25 to 30 degrees Tuesday morning from Monday noon. Thermometers at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday morning in the business district registered from 10 to 13 degrees below zero. While in the residential district and in the country, thermometers exposed to the wind, registered 15 to 18 degrees below zero.
