10 Years AgoMax Silveus was honored at Sofamor Danek's grand opening recently. Danek's new location on U.S. 30W, Warsaw, is the former location of Silveus' family farm, where he lived for 18 years. On March 13, Warsaw Plan Commission members officially renamed CR 150W as Silveus Crossing, after the former councilman and his family. Silveus was born on the farm in 1921 and lived there until 1939. His father purchased the farm from his grandfather, Simon Peter Silveus and sold it to the Kerchenfaut family around 1950. The farm was in the Silveus family for approximately 75 to 100 years.25 Years AgoPoster contest winners at Jefferson Elementary School were recently presented certificates and smoke alarms. The contest was part of the Kosciusko County Firemen's Association's activities during fire prevention week. Winners were Amy Schuster and Josh Gsell in the Jefferson contest, sponsored by the Winona Lake Fire Department. Making the presentation were Winona firemen Mike Cox, Ed Brown and Kip Shuter. 50 Years AgoIf Mark Anglin, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Kay Don Anglin, of Warsaw, meant what he said upon speculating about the sex of the Anglin's unborn child recently, it's fortunate there are now six children in the immediate family. Mark, who was surrounded by four sisters, told his grandparents in quite sincere manner, "Grandpa, if I don't get a brother I'm just going to pack my clothes and come and live with you." He got his brother.75 Years AgoOtis Warner, marooned at the post office here during the sub-zero weather of the past few days, spent the weekend with his family on South Union Street, report his fellow employees at the Warsaw post office.
