10 Years AgoOn the strength of a record-setting performance from senior Amie Poling, Warsaw's varsity girls basketball team, cruised to a 91-65 win at Northern Lakes Conference rival Northridge. The 5-foot-7 Poling shot 9 of 13 from the field, including a 6-of-8 performance beyond the arc, and scored 24 points in the 26-point win. Her six three-pointers in one game is a new school record.25 Years AgoThis recipe was submitted in 1985 Spotlight Recipe Contest for Chicken a la King.6 tbsp. butter; 1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced; 1/4 cup diced green pepper; 6 tbsp. all-purpose flour; 3 cups half-and-half; 4 cups cubed, cooked chicken or turkey; 1-4 ounce jar diced pimentos, drained; 2 egg yolks; 2 tbsp. medium sherry; 1 tsp. salt; 8 patty shells, warmed.In a 10-inch skillet over medium heat, in hot butter, cook mushrooms and green pepper 5 minutes or until tender. Stir in four until blended. Gradually stir in half-and-half and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add chicken and pimentos. Heat to boiling, stirring often. Reduce heat to low. Cover and cook 5 minutes. In cup, stir yolks until mixed. Stir in a little hot sauce; slowly pour mixture back into sauce, stirring rapidly to prevent lumping. Cook, stirring until thickened. Stir in sherry and salt and spoon the chicken mixture into patty shells. Debra Reed, Warsaw50 Years AgoMrs. Eileen Wagner and granddaughter, Carol Clemans, have returned to Warsaw from San Diego, Calif., where they visited Mrs. Wagner's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Englebright. They flew out and back and spent a few days in Mexico.75 Years AgoA press dispatch from New York states: "The Consolidated Gas Company announced today that during the hour President Roosevelt spoke over the radio Friday night, its load charts showed a comparative drop in electricity." An official of the company commenting on the volunteered statement said, it was "possible to assume" the loss of 20,000 kilowatts as compared with the same hour the night before was caused by people turning off their radios when the president started to speak."
