Joan Younce-
Purdue Extension Kosciusko County will offer a Dining with Diabetes class Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Martin’s Supermarket on Husky Trail in Warsaw. Dining with Diabetes is a weekly class that runs for four weeks with a two- month follow-up class. The class is open to those with diabetes, their family members and caretakers but it is targeted mostly to those with Type 2 diabetes. The classes are $30/person or $50/couple. Pre-registration is required at Martins and participants are encouraged to attend all class sessions. We must have a minimum of eight to have the class. Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to prepare and tasty. Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to taste. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand common diabetes related medical tests. Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose level, eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly can lower their risks of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life. Dining with Diabetes is offered statewide and is sponsored by the Purdue Extension Offices. Registration forms may be picked up at Martins, online at www.extension.purdue.edu/kosciusko or at the Purdue Extension office, 202 W. Main St., Warsaw. Call 574-372-2340, for more information.
