Potpourri: John Elliott Has Second Greatest Golf DayEarlier this week, former longtime Warsaw resident John Elliott sent Scott Wiley an email and photo that Wiley thought local readers might be interested in.

Elliott told him, “Yesterday was the second greatest day I experienced in the golf world. The best experience was winning the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship and then walking 18 holes with Chick as he played at one of our Scholar meetings.

“Coming in as a very close second was having lunch with Bobby Jones's grandson, Dr. Robert Jones IV at Atlanta Athletic Club.”

Elliott sent Wiley pictures of the Jones Plaza and a picture in the Merion Room with Dr. Jones and Elliott holding the unique flagstick from Merion CC.

“Each of the main rooms in the Clubhouse are named after one of the courses Bobby played when he won the Grand Slam in 1930. Elaine and I just returned from spending six days in Highland, North Carolina, area where I met Ken Mattis, the PGA professional at Highland Country Club. As you will see, Bobby set the course record of 62 in 1941. His family’s summer home was located on this course,” he said.

In four days, Elliott visited both of his home courses and shared a two-hour lunch with Bobby's grandson, which Elliott called “A very special day.”
