Lady Squires Get Home Win Over Whitko

    NORTH MANCHESTER — The Manchester softball team defeated Whitko 15-5 in five innings Wednesday at home.
    Manchester opened the game with an 8-0 lead after two innings and was able to ride that momentum to the end of the game, despite a five-run inning by the Whitko Lady Wildcats in the fourth.
    Pitching three innings, Manchester's Hannah Beal got the win, while Sydney Jordan and Natalee Cain each pitched an inning of relief.
    At the plate, Kalene Freshour and Meika Kennedy each went 3 for 4 for the Lady Squires, while Erika Milam drove in three runs.
    The Lady Wildcats travel to Tippecanoe Valley tonight, while Manchester travels to Valley Monday for a TRC clash.

The Warsaw softball team got an 11-3 Northern Lakes Conference win at NorthWood Wednesday. Along with getting the win for the Lady Tigers, Kaleigh Speicher also had two hits and five RBIs. Also for Warsaw, Kendra Marshall had four hits and Alex Sanchez finished with three hits. The 12-7 (7-4 NLC) Lady Tigers travel to Northridge Friday for another NLC game.

The Wawasee softball team suffered a 14-4 Northern Lakes Conference loss at home Wednesday evening. Wawasee finished the game with 13 hits, but committed six errors as well. Mattia Rostochak went 4 for 4 in defeat. The 9-10 (3-7 NLC) Wawasee Lady Warriors travel to Plymouth Friday for another NLC game.

The Warsaw baseball team picked up a 7-0 Northern Lakes Conference victory at Nappanee Wednesday. Joey Hickerson improved his individual pitching record to 5-0 by going the distance and he also had two hits, one being a double. Warsaw's Brady Ousley and Aaron Christenberry also hit doubles in the win, improving the Tigers to 8-9 overall and 7-4 in the NLC. Warsaw travels to Northridge Friday for another NLC contest.

In Three Rivers Conference action Wednesday, the Whitko Wildcats got a 7-2 win at Manchester. In the victory, Whitko hit three doubles, two by Colin Nicodemus and anothern by Riley Cokl, while Alex Winger hit a home run. Alex Stoddard was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out six. In the loss, Manchester's Connor McLaughlin hit two doubles and Anthony Saunders went 2 for 2 with a home run. The 10-12 (3-2 TRC) Whitko Wildcats host Columbia City Friday, while Manchester hosts Fort Wayne North Side Saturday.

In a game featuring six home runs, four came off Valley bats, as James Hackworth hit two, while Tanner Andrews and Cory Krider each had one. Andrews also hit a double in the win, as did Jacob Ritchey. The win improves Valley to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in the TRC going into Friday's game at North Judson.

Competing at Elkhart's Christiana Creek Country Club Wednesday, the second-ranked Warsaw Tigers' 151 defeated Elkhart Memorial's 171 and Plymouth's 177. The win improves to 10-0 and 4-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Warsaw senior Eric Tandy had the low score of 36 on the par-36 course. Tim Ahlersmeyer shot a 37 for the Tigers, as Tyler Ostrom and Jon Schram each finished with a 39. The Tigers travel to Culver Saturday to take part in the Culver Military Academy Invitational.
