Betty M. McIntire, 79, Elkhart, passed away at 3 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at her son’s residence in Claypool. She was born Jan. 24, 1938, in Benton Township, to Edwin and Mildred Emerson Troyer. She attended Ligonier High School in Ligonier and lived in Topeka before moving to Elkhart 43 years ago. On Oct. 22, 1955, in Topeka, she married Glen McIntire, who preceded her on Oct. 27, 2015. She was the owner/operator of Creative Crochet, Elkhart, for 24 years before retiring. She enjoyed crocheting, loved to play golf and loved her cat, Callie. She is survived by two sons, Barry (Patricia) McIntire, Topeka, and Bryon (Ellen) McIntire, Claypool; a daughter, Lana Mynhier, Vicksburg, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Troyer, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Lloyd Troyer. NORTH WEBSTER — Ethan Phillip Brown, 22, Pierceton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, while dressing for church. He was born March 29, 1995, in Warsaw, to Terrill D. and Teresa L. Roser Brown. He was a lifetime area resident and graduated in 2014 from Wawasee High School, Syracuse. He was a senior at Purdue University, West Lafayette, with mechanical engineering technology as his major, and was a member of the Purdue Rifle and Pistol Club. He was an intern for the past three summers at Robert Bosch Automotive Group, Albion. He was a lifelong member of Shepherd by the Lakes Lutheran Church, Syracuse, and was a member of the church softball team. Ethan enjoyed life, helping others and serving Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Ethan played baseball in the North Webster Youth League for eight years. He was a member of the football and track teams for Wawasee Middle School and Wawasee High School. He greatly enjoyed his time as a member of the Wawasee Super Mileage team and playing the cello in the school orchestra. He was proud to have spent one summer helping build the new addition to his church as a 14-year- old and going on a mission trip with his youth group to Alaska. COLUMBIA CITY — Laura Virginia “Jenny” Grimes, 95, Columbia City, passed away at 11:07 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at her home at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home. Born July 9, 1922, in Kenova, Wayne County, Ky., she was the daughter of Scott and Effie Burgett Hatten-Vanator. She grew up and attended schools in West Virginia before moving to Indiana. Jenny had worked at the Barbee Hotel and Playtime Products before being married to Franklin J. Grimes on April 19, 1942, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in Pierceton. Franklin was drafted into World War II and was stationed in Ohio and then in Texas. Once in Texas, Jenny moved down to join him before he was transferred to Utah, where their oldest daughter, Carolyn, was born. Following the war, the family took a train back to Chicago and moved back to Pierceton.
