After many precision throws, hard hits and a few rivalry face-offs, it was Zimmer's team that took home the trophy Wednesday as winners of the third annual Corporate Dodgeball Tournament.
Zimmer's "BerZerker 2" team beat Chore-Time in the final match to clinch the championship for the second consecutive year.
Bowen Center sponsored the event, designed to benefit the Kosciusko County United Way campaign. Tim Nussbaum, of Bowen Center, said about 1,000 people gathered to watch the 15 business-sponsored teams compete. "It was another great event," Nussbaum said.
He said the event raised $1,440 toward the United Way campaign goal of $1.715 million.
BerZerker 2 weren't the only winners. Silveus Insurance won the "Best Dressed" award for their camouflage shirts.
"Their strategy was, if the other team couldn't see them, then they couldn't hit them," said United Way Campaign Coordinator Karen Louthain.
Spectator Cindy Coplen won the "Big Hit" award after a well-powered ball, thrown by Tracy Furnivall of the Baker Youth Club team, missed its target and hit Coplen in the forehead. Furnivall won the "Big Throw" award.
The final four teams included Mutual Federal Savings Bank, Paragon Medical, Zimmer and Chore-Time. Larry Peppel, American Red Cross executive director; Rick Paczkowski, Home Care and Hospice; and Mike Bryant, Beneficial Inc., served as referees for the tournament.
The United Way is supported by donor gifts which are allocated to 52 community programs throughout Kosciusko County.
