Youth Leadership Academy Learns about Laws, Government

Posted
Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy recently held their October meeting at the Warsaw police station.

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins talked about the city government, Kosciusko County Commissioner Brad Jackson talked about the county government, and District 9 State Senator Ryan Mishler spoke about the state government.

The students learned about the different branches of government, how laws are made, the responsibilities the elected officials have and the importance for the different levels of government to work together. Each speaker answered questions from the students.

KYLA moderator Tony Ciriello then gave an explanation of what was expected for the class member’s upcoming service project. Each of the KYLA students is required to plan a community service project that will benefit their community.  For guidance, past KYLA graduates Mikayla Wireman, Ayrianne Crawford and Nate Stone spoke about their experiences with community service. Each of them encouraged the students to be resourceful and reach out to the community for support for their project.

The session concluded with Ciriello talking about implementing leadership skills.

The next meeting will be at Chore-Time Brock in Milford Nov. 2 where the students will learn about agri-business in Kosciusko County.
