WPD Patrolman Coburn Retires After 28 Years

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday heard that Warsaw Police Department Patrolman Eric Coburn retired after 28 years with the department.

WPD Capt. Scott Whitaker informed the board that Coburn's retirement was effective June 1.Coburn was hired March 1, 1981, and Whitaker said Coburn informed him in February of his intentions to retire.

Also during the meeting, Warsaw Parks Department Superintendent Jon Garber introduced Staci Young who will serve as the park department's new activities director.

Young began her duties June 1 and replaces former activities director Janelle Wilson, who resigned.

The board also approved temporary street closures for an upcoming benefit. Market Street, up to the railroad tracks, will be closed Aug. 9 from noon to 8 p.m.

There will be a motorcycle ride benefit for Patty Hall at Rex's Rendezvous. Hall was diagnosed with squamous cell throat cancer in February.

The board also:

n approved for Warsaw Fire Department to accept an REMC Operation Round-Up grant. The fire department was awarded the $3,000 grant to help support its annual Play It Safe Family Safety Day.

n approved a notice to proceed with the construction engineering portion of the Argonne Road/Parker Street project.

n approved a request from Warsaw Street Department to purchase a new three-fourths-ton pickup truck with a snow plow.

The board also approved for the department to purchase three new one-ton cab/chassis with dump body and plows from Rice Ford and W.A. Jones. The money for the purchases are in the street department's main budget.
