World Compassion Network Collecting Supplies For Joplin Tornado Victims

Posted
World Compassion Network is seeking the community’s help in collecting items to be donated to the tornado victims in Joplin, Mo.
The tornado struck Joplin May 22, leaving hundreds dead and damaging buildings and homes in its path.
WCN has stationed a Metzger Trucking semi outside JB’s Furniture, 2101 E. Center St., Warsaw, to collect needed items for tornado victims in Joplin.
Metzger Trucking donated the 53-foot semi truck, and Mike Metzger, Metzger Trucking owner, will drive the truck with Joe Wilkey, WCN executive director, riding along to Joplin to drop off supplies collected locally.
A local team of six people will leave Sunday for Joplin to assist with tornado relief efforts and be there until June 10.
The donated items will be delivered Tuesday to Joplin tornado victims.
WCN is a faith-based organization that provides disaster relief and is funded  by individuals, churches and corporations.
The truck has been parked outside JB’s Furniture since Tuesday afternoon.
Collection days and times are today, Friday and Saturday at JB’s from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
WCN’s box truck will be stationed at Warsaw Community Church,  2300 Ranch Road, Warsaw, Sunday for donations at the three services at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon Sunday.
Due to lack of storage in Joplin, the following items can be accepted: laundry detergent, tarps, clippers and tweezers, condiments, pillows, towels, coffee, tea, sugar, powdered and flavored drinks, sunscreen, lighters, antibiotic ointment; baby, children, and adult Tylenol; canned fruit and vegetables, non-perishable food, blankets, sheets, Band-Aids, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, razors, hairspray, trash bags, dish soap, flash lights, batteries, rubbing alcohol, salt and pepper, hydrogen peroxide and dog and cat food. Clothing and water is not needed.
WCN also is in need of funds to purchase diesel fuel for the trip and to purchase other needed supplies.
Volunteers also are needed to help load the truck for a two-hour shift, and to be part of work teams going to Joplin over the next few weeks.
To send funds, mail them to WCN at P.O. Box 1152, Warsaw, IN 46581.
