A 38-year-old woman shot herself in the head Wednesday around 8:45 p.m. at the Days Inn, Lake City Highway, Warsaw.
Ann Ryan, 1901 Maple Lane, Claypool, was listed in serious condition this morning at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne.
According to a Warsaw Police Department report, an employee of Days Inn reported an intoxicated partially nude woman in the area of the vending machines outside the Days Inn office. An ambulance was requested shortly after because the woman was bleeding from the head.
Upon arrival, officers met with the woman, who had a considerable amount of dried blood on the right side of her face and matted in her hair. She also had what appeared to be a large lump on the right side of her head, according to the report.
Asked what happened, the woman told police she had shot herself. MTEMS then arrived and began treating the woman.
Upon inspection of the woman's room, officers found a bloody pillow on the floor and another on the bed. There was one bullet entrance hole and another that had apparently skipped off the wall twice and ricocheted. Bullet fragments were found on the left side of the bed and under the chair next to a heater.
There was blood on the bedding and a bloody hand print on the table in the room and on a washcloth on the sink.
MTEMS personnel, according to the report, told police the woman definitely received a bullet to the head.
At Kosciusko Community Hospital, the woman told officers again that she had shot herself with a .38-caliber gun and that she was going through a divorce.
Officers reported they were told the woman was to go to jail May 5 and she was very upset about that.
An employee of Fast Cab reported the woman had been transported to a couple of bars in Warsaw before being taken to the Days Inn.
Shortly after arriving at KCH, the woman was transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment.
The .38-caliber used was reported stolen around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
