WINONA LAKE - A 21-year-old woman is at Lutheran Hospital following a near drowning at Winona Lake Park.
The Winona Lake Police Department declined to release the woman's name citing that not all of her family had been notified as of this morning.
The victim went into Winona Lake from the beach area near Winona Lake Park around 6:15 p.m. Sunday.A woman, who declined to give her name, was at the park at the time of the near drowning and stated her husband helped get the victim out of the lake.
"She just started playing in the water," said the onlooker. "It seemed like she was trying to drown. She looked troubled."
The onlooker stated the 21-year-old "wasn't in (the water) for more than five minutes."
According to police, the victim was not breathing when Winona Lake Police Department officer Paul Heaton arrived at the scene. At the time, two men were attempting CPR on the victim.
Heaton performed CPR on the victim, and was able to revive her until EMS units arrived.
Onlookers at the scene said they believed the victim was a Grace College student.
Along with the woman's name, officials from the Winona Lake Police Department declined to comment on any personal information of the victim.
The victim was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, then transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Her condition was unavailable as of this morning.
After the victim was rescued, the Kosciusko County Dive Team, along with members of various police and fire departments, were on hand checking the waters to make sure nobody else was in the lake.
