Woman Found Unresponsive after Accident, Airlifted to Fort Wayne

SYRACUSE – A Syracuse woman was airlifted to a Fort Wayne trauma center Tuesday night after her vehicle reportedly left the roadway and crashed in a ditch, leaving her unresponsive. CPR was performed at the scene. According to preliminary information provided by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision around 11:30 p.m. on North CR 1000E, 500 feet south of East CR 1350N, Syracuse. The driver, identified as Kristine M. Jaskutis, 50, North Hiawatha Lane, Syracuse, was southbound when her vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and came to rest in a ditch. She was reportedly unresponsive inside the locked vehicle. Syracuse/Turkey Creek Township EMS and Fire Department responded to the scene, extracted Jaskutis and initiated CPR. Jaskutis was then airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in critical condition. The extent of her injuries is unknown at this time, as is the reason her vehicle left the roadway.
